Install and remove

Every address, command and way to remove Croft is on the Get Croft page.

Find my phone

On the phone, open Croft Plus, This phone, Find my phone, and allow location (including "all the time" so it can answer while the app is closed). Allow it for each computer under Manage for that computer. Then on the computer press Ring it, Where is it or Test connection. The position is taken only when asked and is not stored.

Backups

On the computer: a backup is one file, croft<date>-<time>.croftbak, sealed. A backup is made once a week by itself and the newest eight are kept. Recovery key shows sixteen groups of four: print it and keep it safe. Restoring only adds what is missing.

On the phone: Croft Messaging, Settings, Backup. Contacts can export all contacts as one vCard file and import one back (Settings).

Private contacts and safety numbers

In Croft Plus, Contacts, choose a person and compare the digits with theirs, read out or in person. If they match, say so: the contact shows as verified. The computer shows the same numbers under Private contacts in its menu, and "They match" is sent to the phone.

Team space (business)

Owners and admins use the Team card on the phone or the Team page on the computer to invite, name and remove people, appoint admins and see invoices. Channel messages are kept for the time the owner chooses; an admin can ask a lost member's phone to forget the team (Wipe phone; also remove the person so their keys stop working). See Croft Team.

Moving to a new phone

Your Plus keys stay on the phone and are never backed up. On the new phone install Croft Plus, enter your plan code with the same number, and your contacts will see a new key and check the safety number with you once. Your messages come across with a normal Croft Messaging backup.

If your plan ends

The apps warn you 14 days before. A linked computer keeps reading for three days after the plan ends and then unlinks. Your Pickup stays. Renew in Croft Plus on the phone.

Questions people ask

Do I need Plus?

No. The three apps are complete and free.

Can Croft read my messages?

Not Plus messages: they are sealed on your phone, and the service keeps sealed bytes for up to 14 days. Plain SMS and MMS never touch Croft, but they go through your carrier, which can see them.

Does it work on iPhone?

No. The phone apps are for Android and GrapheneOS. Croft Pickup and Croft PC run on a computer and do not need Croft on your phone.

Will it replace my default apps?

Only if you choose. Each app asks, and you can switch back in Android settings.

What happens to my old texts?

They are copied in and left untouched in the system store.

Is there a Mac version?

Not yet. Windows and Linux today. macOS is being considered.

What if my plan ends?

The apps warn you 14 days before. A linked computer keeps reading for three days and then unlinks. Croft Pickup stays, and the free apps keep working. Texts to everyone go as ordinary SMS and MMS.
