Get Croft

Messaging, Contacts and Caller are free, with no ads, no analytics and no account. Android only, no iPhone. Download addresses carry no version number, so they always give the newest release. Croft Plus is the optional paid add-on, further down.

Getting started in three steps

  1. Install Croft Messaging and Croft Plus on your Android phone.
  2. Open Croft Plus, go to Plan, enter your mobile number and the alpha code CROFTPLUS-ALPHA-LEGEND.
  3. Optional: install Croft Plus on your computer and link it from the Plan page.

One command for everything (Linux or Mac):

This computer

curl -fsSL https://get.croftmessaging.com/install.sh | sh

All four apps to a USB-connected phone (needs adb and USB debugging)

curl -fsSL https://get.croftmessaging.com/install.sh | sh -s -- --phone

Computer and phone

curl -fsSL https://get.croftmessaging.com/install.sh | sh -s -- --all

Add --apps messages, plus to choose which phone apps. Every file is checked against the signed list before it is installed. Run the scripts as yourself, not with sudo.

The free suite for Android and GrapheneOS

Download each APK and open it on your phone, or use the --phone command above. Plain SMS and MMS still go through your carrier and are carrier-visible.

Croft Plus for computer

Linux or macOS

Run this in a terminal. It needs no root.

curl -fsSL https://get.croftmessaging.com/install.sh | sh

Reinstall starts again from nothing: it removes the program, its messages and its pairing key. Uninstall keeps messages and key; add --purge --yes to remove those too.

Windows 10 and 11

Run this in PowerShell. It needs no administrator rights.

To remove it again

& ([scriptblock]::Create((irm https://get.croftmessaging.com/desktop/install.ps1))) -Uninstall

Prefer a package? Use the MSI, and remove it under Settings > Apps. The installer is not yet signed with a publisher certificate, so Windows may show a warning.

Checked before it installs

The computer install script checks the release signature and every checksum before installing, and refuses to install if they don't verify.

Read it first

You can open any script in your browser before running it. The readme explains the options.
